Revised Administrative Procedures for Filing Electronic Documents
Please take note that the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana has recently updated its Administrative Procedures for Filing Electronic Documents. The most impactful change is an increase in the maximum file size for document uploads to CM/ECF and the Judicial Evidence Recording System (JERS). Office of Public Defender Accepting Applications for Membership on the Criminal Justice Act Panel through April 30, 2025
Beginning April 1 and continuing through April 30, 2025, the Office of the Federal Public Defender for the Middle District of Louisiana will be accepting applications for membership on the Criminal Justice Act Panel ("CJA Panel"), as authorized by the Criminal Justice Act Plan for the Middle District of Louisiana ("the Plan").
The Plan allows for the creation of a panel of attorneys who will be available to accept federal criminal appointments under the Criminal Justice Act in those cases in which the Office of the Federal Public Defender cannot accept appointments.

If you receive a Qualification Postcard in the mail, you are required by federal law to respond. A questionnaire is NOT a jury summons and does NOT require you to appear at the courthouse.

Courthouse Closure Due to Severe Winter Weather
The U.S. District Court will be closed on Tuesday, January 21st - Thursday, January 23rd due to the severe winter weather and will reopen on Friday, January 24th.

February 17, 2025 Deadline for Public Comment on Proposed Amendment to Evidence Rule 801
The Judicial Conference Committee on Rules of Practice and Procedure (Standing Committee) approved publication of an amendment to Evidence Rule 801, which would take effect on December 1, 2026. The comment period is open until February 17, 2025.
