Case Information & Public Access

Case Information & Documents

The Clerk’s Office is unable to provide case information or case documents directly to requestors.  The best way to remotely access court records is through PACER.  Visit PACER’s website for information on obtaining an account and accessing records: https://pacer.uscourts.gov/.

Public Access Terminals

Louisiana Middle District case documents may be accessed for free from public access terminals at the courthouse in the Clerk’s Office, 777 Florida Street, Baton Rouge, LA 70801.  Our office hours are 8:00 AM through 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.  Case documents can be printed from public access terminals for a charge.  See “Copy work” on Fee Schedule.

Trial and Hearing Exhibits

Exhibits, including document files, audio recordings, and video recordings may be stored outside the court’s electronic case management system (CM/ECF). The public may only access trial and hearing exhibits which 1) were admitted into evidence and 2) are not sealed. Before requesting exhibits from the Clerk’s Office, first review the CM/ECF case record in PACER (remotely or by using a public access terminal at the courthouse) to identify the exhibit numbers you are requesting from exhibit lists filed into the record.  Second, confirm the exhibit was not filed into CM/ECF and is not available for download directly from PACER.
If the exhibit was not filed into CM/ECF, please visit the Clerk’s Office or contact the Clerk’s Office Electronic Case Filing Helpdesk by phone (1-866-558-6631 or 225-389-3552) or email (cmecfhelpdesk@lamd.uscourts.gov) to request copies of admitted exhibits for a $33 per record charge, which must be paid in advance.  You must be able to provide the Clerk’s Office with the case caption and case number, the record document number of the relevant exhibit list, as well as the exhibit number and description from the relevant exhibit list.
Exhibits can be provided to remote requestors via email or USB flash drive, but only after payment is received via cashier’s check, business check, or money order.  No personal checks or cash are accepted, and the court cannot accept credit card payment information over the phone. For more information on acceptable forms of payment and payment policies, see Fee Schedule.

Court Reporter Services & Transcripts

Guardianship of the record of courtroom proceedings is a key and historic responsibility of the court. Each court session and proceeding designated by statute, court rule, general order, or by order of an individual judge is recorded verbatim by stenotype or electronic sound recording equipment. Court Reporter Services & Transcripts describes how to contact a court reporter and order a transcript.
