IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING SCAM INVOLVING FAKE NOTICES OF ELECTRONIC FILING (NEFs)

There has been a nationwide reporting of fake Notices of Electronic Filing (NEFs) being sent to attorneys and law firms across the country.

These fake NEFs are phishing attempts to convince recipients to respond back to the emails. Once a recipient replies to the email, a follow-up email will be sent containing a link to access a document that leads the user to a malicious website.

Take caution before clicking any links in emails purporting to be NEFs.  Hover over links before clicking to confirm the URL is legitimate (https://ecf.lamd.uscourts.gov). Do not download attachments or click any links from unofficial or questionable sources.

If in doubt, go to the Court’s website and access CM/ECF directly to verify the legitimacy of the notice.

If you encounter what you believe to be a fake NEF, or if you have already complied with the instructions in a fake NEF, please contact the Clerk’s Office at (225) 389-3500 immediately.
